What does B Positive (B+) mean?

B+ is group B with RhD-positive status. Under standard ABO red-cell rules, people with group B can receive B or O red cells.

Red-cell compatibility

B+ red cells can be given to B+ and AB+ recipients under standard ABO/Rh red-cell compatibility. The transfusion service makes the final selection after testing.

Why compatibility testing still matters

The ABO system is only one part of blood-group matching. Hospitals can also consider other clinically important antigens when needed.
